POLICIES

Attendance

It is the position of Cumorah Academy that if a student is absent, no learning can take place. The educational experiences lost during an absence are irretrievable as well as the interaction in the classroom setting. The primary aim of attendance enforcement is to increase student achievement through improved attendance.

Limitation of Absences:

Individual student absences should be limited to a maximum of 12 absences per school year. Students who exceed 12 absences will be examined on an individual basis to determine if the student requires attendance probation. Students who exceed the limited amount of absences may be retained in the current grade.

Notification of Absences:

A parent or guardian must notify the school of any absences by phone or in writing.

Pre-arranged Absences:

A pre-arranged absence request form may be obtained in the school office and must be completed and turned into the student's teacher at least two weeks prior to the requested absence for approval, when missing two or more days of school. A two week time period allows sufficient time for teachers to arrange for a student's homework. Students will be required to submit all homework upon return to school.

Make-up Work:

After an absence, the student and/or parent is responsible to contact the teacher(s) to obtain appropriate make-up work. Time allotted for completion of make-up work is to be determined by the teacher(s).

Tardiness:

Student tardiness is a disruption to the educational atmosphere of our school. Tardiness interferes with time to teach and infringes on the educational rights of other students.

A student is to be marked tardy who is not physically present in the classroom at the start of the instructional day. Tardy students must obtain a pass from the school office before reporting to their classroom. Students who accumulate a total of three (3) tardies will be required to serve detention.

Withdrawal

Cumorah Academy accepts a small number of students at the beginning of each academic year and plans its budget accordingly. The impact on school operations from withdrawal and/or dismissal of any student would be disproportionately large if payment of the full tuition and required fees for the full academic year were not made. Therefore, parent/guardian is and shall be liable for the full amount of tuition and required fees for the full academic year irrespective of the time of withdrawal and/or dismissal of student(s). All transcripts will be held until payment is made.

Payment Options:

Cumorah Academy offers the following two tuition payment options:

#1: 10 month Payment Plan

#2: Prepaid Annual Tuition

Non-payment:

In the event that Parent/Guardian fails to make any two or more payments, Cumorah Academy may refuse to admit the student into any class and cease to provide educational services to the student unless all delinquent payment (and all applicable late charges) have been paid in full. In addition, Cumorah Academy shall have the right to refuse to furnish to any other school any transcripts or other evidence of the student's attendance or performance at Cumorah Academy until all delinquent payment (and all applicable late charges) have been paid in full.

Financial Aid

At Cumorah Academy, we feel it is the responsibility of the parents to shoulder the cost of their child's

education. However, sometimes circumstances do not permit this. We believe that in these situations,

parents must contribute with their time and talents. If you are applying for financial aid, you should beaware of the following:

Discipline Policy

Cumorah Academy strives to maintain an atmosphere in school and school related activities, which enhances the potential for success for every member of the Cumorah Academy community. Cumorah Academy's commitment to learning includes the concept that, in order to learn, students must be guaranteed an environment that is safe. The rules and standards of Cumorah Academy are based on absolute respect for others and their property. In enforcing the rules of the school, Cumorah Academy believes that all students must understand that their actions do have consequences. As students become responsible for appropriate behavior, they develop the self-discipline needed for good citizenship.

To ensure the success of students in a school environment; teachers, administrators, and parents must work cooperatively. Teachers, staff members, and administrators will be responsible for modeling and teaching the behavior standards desired in the classroom and in the school. Parent support is essential to the school staffs' efforts to ensure that the students respect and follow the rules and regulations of the school. Students are responsible for appropriate behavior, regular school attendance, and continued striving for academic excellence.

PAA (Positive Attitude & Actions)

Cumorah Academy is a place where students are encouraged to be friends with everyone on campus. This can be accomplished through the use of positive attitudes and actions with one another. Classroom instruction will be given to all students in regards to having positive attitudes with one another on campus, developing friendships with all students and staff members at school, and using appropriate language and actions during the school day. The P.A.A. policy is instructed (grade level appropriate), after which all students will be asked to sign a contractual agreement to use their positive attitudes , actions, and behaviors in their dealings with students, staff members and parents at Cumorah Academy. Implementing this policy will help Cumorah Academy achieve its goal of providing a stimulating, nurturing, wholesome environment where all students have the opportunity to achieve academic excellence.

Standardized Testing

All students will participate in the Stanford Achievement Test. The Stanford Achievement testing period is held during the month of May of each school year. Advance notification will be sent home prior to the testing period giving dates and times for the testing. It is important that all students are in school during the allotted testing times.

CAPA

Cumorah Academy relies on the involvement of our parents in the Cumorah Academy Parent Association (C.A.P.A.), to support the goals, activities and enrichment experiences created for our students and families. C.A.P.A.’s motto is , “Enriching our Children’s Education through Parent Participation.

Service Hours

Cumorah Academy requires that each family, in addition to the payment of stated tuition and fees, contribute at least twenty (20) hours of service, each school year, to programs at the school and/or benefiting the school. All such services must be to programs or activities approved by the Cumorah Academy Parent Association (CAPA). All parents are automatically members of the Cumorah Academy Parent Association. In lieu of performing such services, parents may elect to pay a $200.00 service hour fee.

Emergency Preparedness

Cumorah Academy has an emergency preparedness plan in effect that would take place in case of a long term lock down situation and/or disaster.

In the event of emergency or disaster, it is important to keep students calm, and to provide items which will help sustain them until they are reunited with their families. Each student at Cumorah Academy is required to have an emergency preparedness kit that will be stored in emergency containers in each student's classroom, to be used in the event of an emergency.
